Golconda Fort

Yesterday my mom, sister, brother, and I went to Golconda Fort. It was about 50 minutes away from our hotel. At first we had to pay an admission of 100 rupees (or 2.50 US dollars). It was free for everyone under 15. A tour guide met us at the front gate of the fort. We walked in the he showed us a hole. It was used to pour hot oil and water on enemies whole would try and break into the fort.

In the center of the first room we went in, our guide said for 750 rupees (19 US dollars) he would give us a tour. We agreed. The man took us to where the soldiers would sleep. Then we walked up 720 stairs that the King and Queen would be carried up and down. The way this worked was by 4 men who would have 2 short men in the front and 2 tall in the back. This would even out the balance so the shelf that the King and Queen would sit on wouldn't tip over. After we climbed up all the stairs our guide took us to a room that a man lived in and had carved markings on the wall. He would get his food from a hole in the roof. We saw a place where a soldier would go up to the roof and be a lookout to see if anyone was coming to fight.

We went to a building that was like a court. All sounds were echoed, so if an assassin tried to draw a dagger everyone could hear. The walls had an arch, so if two men were talking in one corner about killing the king, the men on the other side can hear what they're saying. They say that the walls have ears. Our guide took us to a dark cave filled with bats. We took a picture and zoomed in and saw hundreds of red bat eyes (see picture). The guide then took us out of the fort and our taxi picked us up to go the the hotel.
